Media & Freedom of Expression

Media & Freedom of Expression

Independent media and freedom of expression are fundamental in a democratic society. But what is media, and what rights and responsibilities come with freedom of expression?

Children and young people today increasingly get their news and information on social media. They have also become prosumers, i.e. creating and sharing their own media content. Trust in mainstream media produced by professional journalists is declining, while online platforms are flooded with mis- and disinformation, and so-called “fake news”. Now more than ever, young media consumers need critical thinking skills

Media and Information Literacy Education gives children and young people the skills they need in order to navigate the massive flow of media and information in the digital age. They will learn to view and analyze media and information with a critical eye and create their own media ethically and responsibly.
